Nebraska Guard activated amid wildfire risks
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has activated the Nebraska National Guard to assist in wildfire response efforts due to persistent high winds, low humidity, and dry conditions. This decision follows significant wildfire activity in March, where over 827,000 acres were burned, including the Morrill Fire, the largest in state history, which accounted for 642,000 acres. The National Guard will provide crucial aviation assets, support equipment, and personnel to aid local fire departments and emergency responders in combating potential fires, protecting lives, and safeguarding property.
