Elevated fire risk with record temperatures forecast
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for elevated to critical fire weather conditions across the Plains and Southeast. Forecasts predict over 100 record or near-record temperatures in the Southwest and southern United States this weekend. From March 15 to 26, more than 100 monthly records and over 700 daily records were broken or tied, underscoring a historic heat event. The combination of strong winds, low humidity, and dry fuels significantly elevates the risk of wildfires, prompting red flag warnings in several regions. These warnings indicate ideal conditions for wildfires to ignite and spread rapidly, urging residents in affected areas to exercise extreme caution and adhere to local fire safety regulations.
