Colorado State predicts a less active season
According to forecasts from Colorado State University, the 2026 hurricane season is anticipated to be less active than usual. The forecast predicts around 13 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes. The expected development of El Niño conditions, which typically increase wind shear across the Atlantic basin, is a major factor contributing to this calmer season. Cooler water temperatures in the eastern and central Atlantic are also expected to limit storm intensity and lifespan.
