Xcel Energy enhances powerline safety amid fire danger
Xcel Energy has activated its Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings in response to heightened fire danger across Colorado. This decision comes as high winds, reaching speeds of up to 50 mph, are expected around the Foothills and Boulder areas. The company is closely monitoring the wildfire risk, which is anticipated to increase on Thursday afternoon. The Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings are designed to mitigate wildfire hazards by making power lines more sensitive to disturbances, such as tree branches or other objects making contact with the lines. This activation does not mean that power has been proactively turned off, but it does mean that any outages will require a visual inspection before power can be restored.
