Smoke from wildfires creates haze in Atlanta
Smoke from wildfires in South Georgia and Florida has drifted into the Atlanta metropolitan area, creating a visible haze. Fueled by drought conditions, these fires have consumed approximately 30,000 acres and remain largely uncontrolled. The Georgia Forestry Commission attributes the fire's origin to machine use. A high-pressure system is maintaining warm, dry conditions, enabling southerly winds to carry smoke northward into Atlanta and potentially further into North Georgia. The U.S. Weather Service has issued air quality alerts, cautioning that the air is 'unhealthy for sensitive groups,' especially those with respiratory conditions, young children, and the elderly.
