US · Published Mar 28, 2026
Aspen Highlands is closing two weeks early due to warm weather and poor snow conditions.
Experts attribute the unusual warmth to human-caused climate change and record-breaking temperatures.
Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Ski Area remain open, but are also facing challenges due to the warm weather.
Aspen Highlands closing two weeks ahead of schedule
Aspen Highlands is set to conclude its 2025-2026 season two weeks ahead of schedule due to unseasonably warm weather and deteriorating snow conditions. A recent heat wave, with temperatures soaring into the 60s and 70s, has rapidly melted the snowpack, making it difficult to maintain acceptable skiing conditions. This decision follows Buttermilk Mountain's early closure, where planned celebrations were also canceled. In contrast, Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Ski Area will remain open for the time being, with closures scheduled for April 12 and April 19, respectively.
