The National Weather Service has issued extreme heat watches for Southern California desert regions, including Imperial County, the Salton Sea, Coachella Valley, San Diego County deserts, and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.
A prolonged heat wave is expected to last approximately 60 hours, with temperatures forecast to exceed 100°F (38°C) from Sunday through Tuesday evening.
Meteorologists warn of increased risks of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Why It's Important?

The heat wave poses significant health risks, especially for older adults, children, and individuals with pre-existing conditions. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat cramps, exhaustion, and potentially fatal heat stroke. Outdoor workers and those without access to cooling options are particularly vulnerable. Authorities emphasize the importance of hydration and avoiding direct sun exposure.
