Cicada stragglers to emerge in Southern, Eastern US
As spring approaches, entomologists are forecasting a sparse emergence of cicadas in the Southern and Eastern regions of the United States. These cicadas, termed 'stragglers,' are not part of the anticipated large-scale emergence of Broods XXII and II slated for 2026, but rather individual insects emerging off their typical cycle. The presence of these cicada stragglers is expected to be most notable in states like Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Ohio, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Virginia.
