Cold winter delays D.C. cherry blossom peak
This year, Washington D.C.'s cherry blossoms are experiencing a delayed peak bloom due to an unusually cold winter. The Capital Weather Gang forecasts the Yoshino cherry trees at the Tidal Basin to reach their peak between April 3 and April 7, making it the latest bloom since 2018. The prolonged cold has significantly hampered bud development, and despite expectations that warmer weather might accelerate the process, cooler conditions in mid-March have slowed progress through critical bud stages. Historically, March temperatures have been a key indicator for bloom timing, and this year's cold start has pushed the bloom process behind schedule.
