High wind warnings across central United States
The National Weather Service has issued red flag and high wind warnings for a significant portion of the central United States, stretching from the Canadian border down through Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. According to the NWS, winds in southern South Dakota and northern Nebraska are expected to be sustained between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph. In western Colorado and eastern Kansas, winds will range from 35 to 45 mph, gusting up to 65 mph. Relative humidity levels are forecast to drop to around 13%, creating conditions conducive to fire spread.
