The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for large portions of Arizona and southeastern California, with dangerously high temperatures expected from Sunday morning through early next week.
In the Phoenix metro area, temperatures are forecast to range between 104°F and 110°F (40°C to 43°C), while California's Imperial Valley could see highs reaching 112°F (44°C).
Desert regions such as the Coachella Valley and areas near Palm Springs are also under alert, with temperatures predicted to peak between 104°F and 109°F (40°C to 43°C).

Why It's Important?

The extreme heat poses significant risks to millions of residents across affected areas, particularly in major metro regions like Phoenix and southern California deserts. Vulnerable groups, including outdoor workers, older adults, and children, are at heightened risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. The timing of the heat wave during Mother’s Day weekend increases the likelihood of exposure as families plan outdoor activities. Health officials warn that prolonged exposure to such high temperatures can quickly escalate into medical emergencies if precautions are not taken.
