US · Published May 11, 2026
An unseasonal heatwave is set to impact California and Arizona, with temperatures reaching as high as 114°F (46°C) in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, extreme heat warnings and advisories have been issued for regions including the Phoenix metro area, southeastern California, and southern Arizona deserts.
Cities such as Fresno, Bakersfield, and Modesto in the San Joaquin Valley are expected to experience highs of up to 102°F (39°C) through Monday and Tuesday.

Why It's Important?

The heatwave is expected to affect millions across California and Arizona, with vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions at heightened risk. Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to serious health issues, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Urban areas may experience amplified effects due to heat retention in infrastructure, while air quality alerts in some regions further exacerbate health risks. Residents in areas under extreme heat warnings, such as the Imperial Valley and Coachella Valley, face the highest temperatures, while those in heat advisory zones will still encounter elevated risks.
