A heatwave is bringing dangerously high temperatures to Arizona and California, with some areas expected to reach up to 114°F (46°C) by Tuesday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued extreme heat warnings for desert regions, including the Imperial Valley, Salton Sea area, Yuma, and Coachella Valley, effective from Sunday through Monday.
Heat advisories are also in place for California's Inland Empire and San Joaquin Valley, where temperatures are forecast to range from 95°F to 102°F (35°C to 39°C).

Why It's Important?

The extreme heat is expected to strain health systems, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children, older adults, and individuals with pre-existing conditions. Urban areas may experience amplified effects due to the 'urban heat island' phenomenon, which keeps nighttime temperatures elevated. Risks include heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and respiratory issues, especially as the heatwave coincides with air quality alerts in some regions. Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
