Farm Bureau Launches Road Safety Campaign Amid Increased Farm Equipment Traffic
US · Published May 11, 2026
The New York Farm Bureau has initiated a road safety campaign to address the heightened presence of farm equipment on rural roads during the planting season.
According to the campaign, drivers are urged to exercise caution when encountering slow-moving vehicles, such as tractors and other agricultural machinery.
These vehicles often display a Slow-Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblem, an orange triangle, and may travel at speeds below 25 mph.

Why It's Important?

The campaign aims to reduce the risk of accidents involving farm equipment and other vehicles, which are particularly common during the planting season. Drivers who fail to slow down or attempt to pass in unsafe conditions are at higher risk of collisions. Farmers are also at risk of rollovers when driving on soft shoulders or near ditches, which are prevalent on rural roads. The initiative seeks to mitigate these hazards by promoting awareness and safe practices among both drivers and farmers. The consequences of ignoring these guidelines can be severe, including fatal accidents and significant property damage.
