Wisconsin has seen some of its coldest May temperatures on record since 1895, according to data compiled by the National Centers for Environmental Information.
The coldest May occurred in 1907, with an average temperature of 46.7°F (8.2°C), a monthly high of 58.7°F (14.8°C), and a low of 34.7°F (1.5°C).
Other notable cold Mays include 1924, 1954, and 1967, all of which had average temperatures below 50°F (10°C).

Why It's Important?

The cold Mays in Wisconsin have historically impacted agriculture, delaying planting seasons and affecting crop yields due to frost and cooler soil temperatures. Additionally, colder weather can increase heating costs for residents and pose challenges for outdoor activities. Precipitation levels during these months also influence flooding risks and water management strategies. While these events are historical, they underscore the variability of spring weather in the region.
