A Western Disturbance has intensified over North Pakistan, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds to the Chandigarh tricity area.
Early Monday morning, a storm with gusts up to 70 km/h disrupted power and water supplies in parts of the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the region, warning of continued severe weather through Tuesday.

Why It's Important?

The IMD has highlighted several risks associated with the ongoing orange alert. Gusty winds of 50-70 km/h may cause tree branches to snap and create flying debris hazards. Lightning poses a threat to exposed areas, including rooftops and tall structures. Disruptions to municipal services, such as electricity and water supply, are possible. Roads may become slippery, leading to traffic congestion and hazardous driving conditions. Weak structures could sustain minor damage. Residents are advised to remain indoors during storms and avoid sheltering under trees or near water bodies.
