Tropical Cyclone Development Likely in Western Pacific
Western Pacific · Published May 26, 2026
The Global Tropics Hazards Outlook (GTH) has highlighted an increased likelihood of tropical cyclone (TC) activity in the Western Pacific over the next two weeks.
The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is currently propagating eastward, enhancing conditions for cyclogenesis.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has identified a high-confidence area for TC formation east of the Philippines, with additional development possible in the South China Sea.

Why It's Important?

Communities in the Western Pacific, particularly those in the Philippines and surrounding regions, should prepare for potential tropical cyclone impacts, including heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding. The Eastern Pacific may also experience increased rainfall and storm activity, posing risks to coastal areas and marine operations.
