Light rain forecast in Ahmedabad as monsoon begins retreat
• The southwest monsoon has started its withdrawal from parts of India, including Gujarat, where light to moderate rain is expected over the next seven days.
• According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), South Gujarat will experience rain and thundershowers at several locations, while North Gujarat and Saurashtra will see isolated to scattered showers.
Impact & Risks
The ongoing rainfall may provide relief to areas experiencing a deficit in monsoon precipitation, as Gujarat has recorded 7% less rainfall than average this season. However, thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph could pose risks to outdoor activities and infrastructure in affected areas such as Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Reservoirs in the state are filling up, with the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam at 97.23% capacity and 45 dams under high alert.
