Ahmedabad experienced heavy rainfall on Friday, recording an average of 2.88 inches between 6 am and 6 pm, as reported by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
The downpour brought the city's seasonal rainfall total to 34.76 inches.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging at 235 spots across Ahmedabad, causing traffic disruptions and long jams. Five underpasses were closed temporarily, and five BRTS routes were shut down. The higher Sabarmati river level delayed drainage in several areas, exacerbating the flooding. The rain also caused structural damage, including the collapse of houses in Doshiwala Pol. At Ahmedabad airport, poor visibility affected flight operations, leading to delays of up to three hours for 20 domestic flights, impacting passengers travelling to cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Bhopal.
