• Cyclone Arnab, a very severe cyclonic storm, has developed over the west-central Bay of Bengal, moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 20 km/h as of 11:30 AM IST on 27 October
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported its position near latitude 16.2°N and longitude 83.7°E. This cyclone is part of the post-monsoon cyclone season, which typically occurs from October to December. The Bay of Bengal is particularly active during this period due to favourable conditions such as warm ocean waters and increased atmospheric moisture. The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to parts of Andhra Pradesh as it approaches landfall.

Impact & Risks

The cyclone poses significant risks to coastal regions, particularly Andhra Pradesh, where heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected. Coastal areas may experience storm surges, flash flooding, and damage to infrastructure such as power lines, trees, and buildings. The eyewall of the cyclone, which contains the most intense winds and rainfall, is likely to cause severe destruction during landfall. Low-lying areas are at risk of inundation due to storm surges, which can rise between 2 to 7 metres. Inland areas may also face heavy rainfall and potential flooding as the cyclone weakens but continues to move inland.
