• Cyclonic Storm Arnab, pronounced 'Ornab', has intensified in the Bay of Bengal and is expected to make landfall along India's eastern coastline. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the storm developed from a deep depression into a named cyclonic storm on 26 October
• As of 28 October, the cyclone is forecast to strengthen further, potentially reaching 'very severe cyclonic storm' status. The storm is expected to bring destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and dangerous sea conditions, particularly affecting Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Coastal areas are bracing for significant impacts as the storm approaches landfall.

Impact & Risks

Cyclone Arnab poses a high risk to coastal communities in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The storm is expected to cause widespread damage to vulnerable structures, uproot trees, and disrupt power supplies. Heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding, waterlogging, and landslides in hilly areas. Coastal flooding and rough seas with wave heights of 4-6 metres are anticipated, severely affecting visibility and maritime operations. Transportation networks, including roads and railways, may face disruptions due to waterlogging and flooding. The storm's impact could also extend to drinking water supplies, sanitation, and public health.
