IMD Issues Orange Alert for Very Heavy Rainfall in Himachal Pradesh
IN · Published Oct 18, 2026
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in seven districts of Himachal Pradesh on June 25,
• The affected districts include Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una, with additional heavy rainfall expected in Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla. Active monsoon conditions have been impacting the region since June 20, leading to a significant drop in temperatures across the state. Dense fog is also forecasted in several areas, reducing visibility to as low as 25 metres and potentially complicating travel.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and dense fog are expected to cause disruptions in travel and daily activities, particularly in hilly areas. The IMD has warned of potential flash floods, landslides, and rapid rises in water levels of rivers and streams. Reduced visibility due to fog poses a risk for drivers and travellers, especially in mountainous regions. The drop in temperatures, with Kangra experiencing an 8.2°C decrease, may also impact local residents and tourists.
