US · Published Oct 28, 2026
• Recent reports from hikers on the Mt. Whitney Trail indicate snowy and icy conditions as of October 25,
• Snow is melting at lower elevations, but from Lone Pine Lake to Mirror Lake, packed snow and icy patches are present. Higher up, from Mirror Lake to Trail Camp, there is 6-12 inches of powder, with 2-4 feet of drifting snow above Trail Camp. The switchbacks are now packed down, but the trail above the cables remains obscured by snow. Some hikers have turned back at Trail Crest due to challenging conditions.

Impact & Risks

The snowy and icy conditions pose risks for hikers, particularly above Trail Camp where snow drifts are significant. The icy log bridge near Mirror Lake and obscured trails above the cables require caution. Hikers without proper equipment, such as crampons and ice axes, may find the trail hazardous. These conditions could deter less experienced hikers from attempting the summit.
