Tropical Storm Edouard Forms, Strengthens in Gulf of Mexico
• Tropical Depression Five has intensified into Tropical Storm Edouard as of 7:00 PM CDT on Monday, August 31,
• The storm is currently located at 28.4°N, 91.6°W, approximately 140 miles (225 km) southeast of Cameron, Louisiana, and 175 miles (280 km) southeast of Port Arthur, Texas. Edouard is moving west-northwest at 6 mph (9 km/h) with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 1010 mb (29.83 inches). Additional strengthening is expected as the storm approaches the northwest Gulf Coast, with landfall anticipated on Tuesday.
Impact & Risks
Tropical Storm Edouard poses significant risks to coastal areas in Texas and Louisiana. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Port Bolivar, Texas, to the Vermilion/Iberia Parish Line in Louisiana. A Storm Surge Watch is also in place from High Island, Texas, to the Vermilion/Cameron Parish Line, Louisiana, with potential surge heights of 2-4 feet in some areas. Rainfall totals of 3-6 inches, with isolated amounts up to 9 inches, are expected, leading to flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas. River flooding is also possible.
