• Chennai and its neighbouring districts, including Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpet, Ranipet, and Vellore, are expected to experience another spell of rain until Monday morning.
• This is due to a change in wind patterns caused by a developing cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea, which is drawing moisture towards the north Tamil Nadu coast.

Impact & Risks

The expected rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Chennai and its neighbouring districts. The Kodaikanal and Coonoor hill regions may face localised flooding due to heavy rainfall. Central interior and coastal districts, including Kallakurichi, Dharmapuri, Salem, and others, are also likely to experience heavy rain, which could disrupt daily activities. Southern Tamil Nadu districts such as Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi may see additional rainfall due to strengthening westerly winds. Residents in these areas should remain cautious of potential travel disruptions and water accumulation.
