The identified vulnerable locations, including low-lying areas and urban stretches, are at risk of flooding during the Northeast monsoon. Water flow from catchment areas such as Chembarambakkam and Tiruneermalai could reach up to 70,000 cusecs during peak flooding. Urbanisation has altered historical water bodies, increasing the risk of waterlogging in areas like Pallikaranai. Large campuses and metro stations are implementing staggered pumping protocols to mitigate immediate road flooding. The GCC is focusing on stormwater management and rapid response measures to minimise risks.
