The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha on 11 September
Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Kerala, Mahe, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, West Bengal, and Sikkim during the day. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are forecast for Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until 12 September

Impact & Risks

The heavy to very heavy rainfall could lead to localised flooding, waterlogging, and disruption of daily activities in the affected regions, particularly in Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may pose risks to infrastructure, trees, and power lines in Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Residents in low-lying areas and regions prone to landslides should remain vigilant.
