• The Coimbatore Corporation has reported a decline in dengue cases within its limits, with the incidence dropping from 1.4 cases per lakh population between 14 September and 4 October to 1.1 cases per lakh between 5 October and 25 October.
• The civic body has intensified its efforts to combat mosquito breeding by deploying 1,209 domestic breeding checkers (DBC) to inspect homes and remove potential breeding sources such as discarded containers, coconut shells, old tyres, and flower pots.

Impact & Risks

The reduction in dengue cases is a positive development for Coimbatore residents, as the disease poses significant health risks, including high fever, severe headaches, and joint pain. However, the ongoing monsoon season increases the risk of water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea and typhoid. The Corporation is taking preventive measures, including chlorinating drinking water across all 100 wards, to mitigate these risks. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities to ensure the success of these initiatives.
