The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cleveland has issued a Special Marine Warning for nearshore and open waters from Conneaut, OH, to Ripley, NY, until 2:15 AM EDT Monday.
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts, wind gusts of 34 knots or greater, and small hail was detected 8 nautical miles northeast of Erie, PA, moving east at 10 knots.

Impact & Risks

The severe thunderstorm and marine warnings present significant risks to boaters and swimmers. Waterspouts can overturn boats and create hazardous seas, while wind gusts and high waves may damage small craft. Rip currents along the lakeshore can carry swimmers away from shore, making swimming extremely dangerous. These conditions are particularly hazardous for inexperienced mariners and swimmers in affected areas.
