The initiative aims to mitigate risks associated with glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), which could endanger lives and infrastructure in downstream areas. Continuous rainfall and landslides have already caused road blockages and disruptions in essential services across the state. Vulnerable populations, including those living near riverbanks and in landslide-prone areas, are at heightened risk. The minister has also highlighted the need to safeguard pregnant women, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities by relocating them to safer areas if necessary. The state is also addressing the risk of dengue outbreaks by implementing preventive measures in waterlogged areas.
