Northern India, including major cities like Delhi, faces some of the world's worst winter air pollution, with Air Quality Index levels exceeding 999—more than 30 times the World Health Organization's safety limit. Severe pollution episodes often lead to emergency measures such as halting construction, restricting industrial activities, and limiting vehicle traffic. These interventions, while effective, are challenging to implement on short notice. Predicting the severity of winter pollution in advance could help governments, businesses, and communities better prepare, potentially reducing health risks and economic disruptions.
