Guwahati and surrounding areas experienced torrential rainfall yesterday, with over 100 mm recorded in just two to three hours, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
The downpour caused widespread waterlogging, leading to the closure of all educational institutions in the city, including Gauhati University.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption to daily life in Guwahati and nearby districts. Many homes have been damaged, and standing crops have suffered extensive losses, impacting farmers' livelihoods. Blocked roads have hindered transportation and connectivity, while essential services have been temporarily affected. Residents in waterlogged areas face challenges in accessing basic necessities, and the risk of further damage remains if adverse weather conditions persist.
