In response to Hurricane Lala's impacts, Governor Josh Green and the mayors of Hawai‘i's four counties have announced the closure of all State and county government offices, as well as public schools, on Monday, August 17,
This decision aims to prioritize emergency response, recovery, and restoration efforts across the islands. Mayor Rick Blangiardi of Honolulu has also ordered the closure of non-essential City and County offices and services, granting administrative leave to non-essential employees. Essential services, including public safety, refuse collection, and public transportation, will continue to operate. Hawaiian Electric reported 453 outages affecting approximately 113,000 customers, alongside cellular service disruptions in parts of O‘ahu. City crews are actively addressing storm damage, clearing debris, and restoring services. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
