Tropical Storm Alerts Loom for Texas as Gulf System Intensifies
US · Published Jun 16, 2026
A developing tropical system, designated as Invest 90L, is raising concerns across the Gulf Coast as it moves into the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has increased the probability of tropical development to 50% over the next seven days.

Why It's Important?

The Gulf Coast region, including major cities like Houston and Corpus Christi, faces a significant risk of flash flooding due to heavy rainfall and slow-moving thunderstorms. The Level 3 out of 4 flood threat indicates the potential for widespread and locally catastrophic flooding, particularly in low-lying and urban areas. Coastal winds may also pose hazards, especially in areas near the Gulf of Mexico. The combination of tropical moisture and a stalled cold front increases the likelihood of prolonged rainfall, exacerbating flood risks. Millions of residents across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia are advised to remain vigilant as conditions evolve.
