Hyderabad Faces 34% Rainfall Deficit During Monsoon Season
IN · Published Nov 7, 2026
• Hyderabad experienced a significant 34% rainfall deficit during the June-September monsoon season, receiving only 488.3 mm of rain compared to the normal 745.1 mm, according to TSDPS data.
• Despite repeated heavy rainfall alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city saw only 2-3 isolated heavy downpours.

Impact & Risks

The rainfall deficit has disrupted agricultural activities and water resource management in Hyderabad and its neighbouring districts. Farmers in the region are likely to face challenges due to reduced water availability for irrigation, potentially impacting crop yields. Urban areas, including Hyderabad, may experience increased water scarcity, affecting daily life and industrial operations. The lack of consistent rainfall has also heightened concerns about groundwater depletion and long-term water security in the region.
