Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Central Illinois and Surrounding Areas
• The National Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has issued a Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion highlighting heavy rainfall across central Illinois, northern Indiana, and east-central Missouri.
• Moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage along a stationary front, which is drawing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.
Impact & Risks
The affected areas may experience localised flash flooding due to heavy rainfall rates of 1-3 inches through 03Z. While much of the region has not seen significant rainfall recently, flash flood guidance remains near normal. Urban areas and locations with poor drainage are particularly at risk. The rainfall may also impact transportation and infrastructure in the region.
