India received 7.3 mm of rainfall on Wednesday, which is 5% above the normal for the day.
However, the cumulative rainfall since the start of the monsoon season on June 1 remains 13% below the long-term average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Impact & Risks

The 13% deficit in cumulative rainfall could have implications for agriculture, water resources, and rural livelihoods across India. Regions dependent on consistent monsoon rains for kharif crop cultivation may face challenges, particularly in areas already experiencing water stress. The deficit could also impact hydropower generation and groundwater recharge, potentially leading to longer-term water scarcity issues.
