• The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has emphasised the importance of reporting heat-related illnesses through the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP).
• This initiative aims to monitor and manage health conditions arising from extreme heat, which is a growing concern in India due to rising temperatures.

Impact & Risks

Heat-related illnesses, including heatstroke, pose significant health risks, particularly during periods of extreme heat. Vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are at higher risk. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and in severe cases, life-threatening conditions. The initiative by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare aims to mitigate these risks by improving data collection and response mechanisms.
