Government Issues Nationwide Heatwave Advisory to Protect Workers
IN · Published Sep 12, 2026
The Government of India has issued a nationwide heatwave advisory to all States and Union Territories to safeguard workers from the adverse effects of rising temperatures.
The advisory, issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, calls for immediate implementation of safety measures, particularly for workers in outdoor and labour-intensive sectors such as construction and brick kilns.

Impact & Risks

The advisory highlights the risks posed by heatwaves to workers, especially those engaged in outdoor and physically demanding jobs. Vulnerable groups such as construction workers, brick kiln labourers, daily wage earners, and casual labourers are at heightened risk of heat-related illnesses, including heatstroke. The Ministry has emphasised the need for a multi-sectoral approach to mitigate these risks and ensure worker safety during extreme heat conditions.
