Monsoon Weather Linked to Coffee Disease Outbreaks in India
India · Published Oct 24, 2026
• The Coffee Board of India has highlighted the impact of monsoon weather on coffee plantations, particularly in regions with dense shade and high humidity.
• Diseases such as black rot, leaf rust, and berry stalk rot are prevalent during the rainy season, causing significant damage to coffee crops.

Impact & Risks

Coffee plantations in India, particularly those in valley regions and areas with dense shade, are at high risk during the monsoon season. Diseases like black rot can lead to a 10-20% crop loss in affected patches, while leaf rust can cause up to 70% yield reduction in susceptible arabica varieties. Berry stalk rot and root diseases further threaten the health of coffee plants, especially in waterlogged areas. These diseases not only impact crop yield but also increase the financial burden on farmers due to the need for intensive disease management practices.
