Jammu-Srinagar Highway Open Both Ways Amid Caution
IN · Published Oct 28, 2026
• Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) is open in both directions as of October 28, subject to favourable weather and road conditions.
• The Traffic Police have reported slow movement due to single-lane stretches at Dawal in Udhampur and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, as well as vehicle breakdowns and nomadic herd movements.

Impact & Risks

The highway's condition poses risks to travellers, particularly in landslide-prone and shooting-stone areas between Ramban and Banihal. Construction activities and herd movements may cause delays. Oil and gas tankers face restrictions during daytime on certain stretches due to road widening work. Slippery conditions on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road require anti-skid chains for vehicles. Commuters are advised to confirm road conditions before travel to avoid disruptions.
