The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) is urging residents to prepare for potential impacts from Hurricane Lowell, expected over the Labor Day weekend.
Following Tropical Storm Lala, KIUC crews have been inspecting and repairing the island's transmission and distribution systems to address storm-related vulnerabilities.

Impact & Risks

Hurricane Lowell poses a risk of power outages and infrastructure damage on Kaua‘i. Residents dependent on electricity for medical needs are particularly vulnerable and should consider backup power options. Flying debris and falling trees could cause property damage, while prolonged outages may disrupt daily life. The cooperative has prioritized repairs to critical systems, but residents should remain vigilant and prepared for potential disruptions.
