IMD predicts rain-free Durga Puja in West Bengal
IN · Published Oct 15, 2026
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted dry weather across most parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, during the Durga Puja celebrations from October 18 to October
• Light to moderate rain may occur in Kolkata and surrounding districts until October 17, during the pre-puja period. North Bengal districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri may experience light rain or thundershowers on October 18, but dry conditions are expected thereafter. This forecast ensures that the festivities will largely remain unaffected by adverse weather conditions.

Impact & Risks

The rain-free forecast is expected to benefit the large crowds visiting community pandals in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal during Durga Puja. However, light rain until October 17 may slightly disrupt pre-puja activities in south Bengal. In north Bengal, minor rainfall on October 18 could briefly affect outdoor events, but no significant risks or hazards are anticipated during the main festival days.
