Red Flag Parking Restrictions Lifted in Los Angeles
US · Published Oct 19, 2026
• The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) has officially lifted Red Flag Parking Restrictions as of 6:00 AM on Sunday, October 18,
• These restrictions were initially implemented on Thursday, October 15, 2026, due to forecasted fire weather conditions, including strong winds exceeding 25 mph, relative humidity of 15% or less, and warm temperatures. Such conditions significantly increase the risk of rapid fire spread, particularly in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones (VHFHSZ) across the city. The restrictions were in place for at least 48 hours to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate emergency response in case of wildfires. LAFD had also pre-deployed additional resources, including specialized fire engines, air operations personnel, and wildfire monitoring systems, to high-risk areas such as the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica Mountains, Hollywood Hills, and West LA.

Impact & Risks

The lifting of Red Flag Parking Restrictions means residents in the affected areas can now park on previously restricted streets. However, the recent fire weather conditions highlight the ongoing risk of wildfires in the region, particularly in the VHFHSZ. During Red Flag Alerts, illegally parked vehicles in these zones are subject to towing to ensure emergency vehicles can navigate narrow streets and residents can evacuate safely. While the immediate threat has subsided, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant as fire weather conditions can change rapidly.
