IMD Issues Red Alert for Heavy Rainfall in Three Kerala Districts
IN · Published Oct 25, 2026
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts in Kerala on 25 October 2026 due to forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall.
• This weather event is being driven by a low-pressure area over the southeastern Arabian Sea and the adjoining Lakshadweep region, along with a trough extending towards the northern Tamil Nadu coast.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses significant risks, including flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides, particularly in the affected districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Intense rain can overwhelm drainage systems, raise river levels, and saturate hillside soil, increasing the likelihood of hazardous conditions. Residents in these areas should exercise caution, avoid flooded roads and streams, and adhere to safety instructions issued by local authorities.
