Record King Tides Cause Severe Flooding in South Florida

• South Florida is experiencing unprecedented flooding due to what residents are calling the 'highest king tide ever.' King tides, the highest predictable tides of the year, have caused significant coastal flooding across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
• On October 27, Miami and Fort Lauderdale recorded over two feet of water above high tide, marking the most floodwater ever recorded in Miami outside of a hurricane.

Impact & Risks

The flooding has severely impacted low-lying roads, properties, and businesses in coastal communities from Miami to Palm Beach. Streets and beaches have been inundated, with water levels reaching 2.07 feet in Lake Worth Beach, the third-highest king tide level recorded since 2010. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roads, as saltwater intrusion poses risks to vehicles and infrastructure. Elevated surf and rip currents also present dangers to swimmers and beachgoers.
