• Officials have identified 315 drought-affected mandals, with 101 facing severe drought and 214 experiencing moderate conditions.

Impact & Risks

The rainfall deficit has adversely impacted agricultural activities in Telangana, leading to a decline in the area under cultivation compared to the previous year. Farmers in drought-affected mandals are facing significant challenges, with crop losses threatening their livelihoods. The state government has proposed a relief package of Rs 1,986.89 crore to support affected farmers, including measures for irrigation, alternative crop seeds, and price protection for agricultural produce. The situation is compounded by concerns over the potential impact of El Niño, which could further exacerbate the drought conditions.
