India's semiconductor manufacturing sector is progressing rapidly, with 12 units established under the Semicon India programme, representing a total investment of $20 billion.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that three of these units have already begun chip production.

Impact & Risks

The development of a robust semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India is expected to reduce the country's dependence on foreign suppliers for critical components used in automobiles, electronics, and telecommunications. This initiative could also create significant economic opportunities, including job creation and technological advancements. However, the success of Semicon 2.0 will depend on effective implementation and the ability to attract further investments and partnerships.
