Unseasonal Rainfall Raises Health Concerns in Delhi-NCR and Northern States
IN · Published Oct 17, 2026
• Unseasonal rainfall across Delhi-NCR and other northern states has heightened the risk of vector-borne and water-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, leptospirosis, typhoid, and diarrhoeal infections.
• Health experts have warned that stagnant water, contaminated drinking water, and prolonged damp conditions are contributing factors.

Impact & Risks

The unseasonal rainfall poses significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups such as older adults and individuals with pre-existing conditions like diabetes, hypertension, asthma, or coronary artery disease. Stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the likelihood of diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. Contaminated drinking water and poor sanitation may lead to typhoid and diarrhoeal infections. Exposure to floodwater can also result in leptospirosis, especially if it comes into contact with cuts or mucous membranes.
