Heavy Rain and Storm Warnings Issued Across India
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across several regions of India. A low-pressure system over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the north Andaman Sea is influencing weather patterns, particularly in eastern, central, southern, and northeastern India. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Vidarbha are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall between 21 and 26 September
• Delhi and much of Uttar Pradesh are not under immediate weather warnings, though activity may increase later in the week.
Impact & Risks
The heavy rainfall and thunderstorms pose risks of waterlogging, flash floods, and disruptions in vulnerable areas, particularly in eastern and central India. Coastal regions may face strong winds and rough sea conditions, impacting fishermen and coastal communities. Lightning and thunderstorms could also pose safety risks to residents and farmers working in open fields. Repeated rainfall in eastern states like Bihar and Odisha may lead to rising river levels and exacerbate waterlogging issues.
